"Bull Run" by David Aldus U.A
Capturing the Beauty and dynamics of the Stockmarket.
The Bull and the bear have been pitted against each other since Roman times. This antipathy is used now as the perfect allegory for the positive and negative forces of the Stockmarket!! This particular Pastel is probably unique in its size and subject in the world! Pastels rarely exceed 2' x 3' whereas this Bull pastel measures a massive 40 in x 30
Signed by Aldus
Pastels are resistant to all fading they will remain as you see them for the next 2 or 3 centuries. There are examples of portraits executed in pastels in the Louvre which were completed during Louis XIII’s reign and they are in precisely the same state as when they were completed. The very earliest Art still seen today in Cave paintings is a close relative. Because they are natural materials they cannot revert to another colour therefore they will never need restoration or re-colouring! The colour of Louis XIII’s pastels remains precisely the same because of their natural pastel materials. They will not fade and remain the same colour as the day they were painted!! The major feature of pastels is that they take on a 3 D luminous quality. This effect is gained by the action of the pastel particles when applied they stand erect in microscopic terms so that if you can envisage these tiny particles they are like the spines on a comb and when they stay in this erect position on the paper they refract light from all angles. This is the cause of their luminosity! It has been a malpractice by some pastel artists to spray their pastels this causes the pastel particles to fall flat causing a total loss of luminosity and also endangering the longevity e.g. the spray not the pastel will deteriorate and cause damage to the pastel exhibit!
