............. BY THE INCREDIBLE AWARD WINNING ARTIST HEATHER JAMES!!!!
I am a plein-air oil painter best known for my Yorkshire seascapes and beach scenes. I believe that working outside, directly in front of the subject, gives my work a life and vibrancy sadly lacking in much of studio work.My paintings can be seen in homes and galleries throughout the UK and the USA - and many other places too. In 2013 I won the Oldie, £5000, British Art Award.
As well as being a painter I am also a professor of mathematics, specialising in relativity and cosmology. My professorship is from the University of Linkoping in Sweden where I worked for several years. I also do some teaching at York University. My research work deals mostly with black holes, gravitational radiation and cosmology. I am the author of quite a well-known book called General Relativity - A Geometric Approach, published by Cambridge University Press.

About the Artist - Heather James
Heather is an artist living and working in Hackney, east London in the UK. Heather has enjoyed sketching outdoors since she graduated from Bath Academy of Art in 1979 and moved to London. This helped Heather to cope with the pressures of city life and the inevitable boredom arising from using public transport.
Eventually She realised that she had learned to navigate my way round London by drawing it. Now she has a more settled life she's been able to develop her drawing skills over an extended period and explore areas of London that have piqued my curiosity. This has resulted in two projects: ‘Drawing my way round London’, a train ride along the route of the old North London Line starting in north Woolwich in the east and finishing in Richmond in the west and ‘805 steps’, a drawing project along the Hertford Union canal completed in September 2015.
In addition Heather likes to develop some of her sketches into paintings but she can never predict whether the end result will be representational or abstract. Heather is also beginning to explore the complex world of lino printing and she can well imagine this will keep her busy into her old age.
