odins call to ragnarok

"Odin's call to Ragnarok" By Leon Goodman

This Absolute Masterpiece, a Huge Canvas , "Odin's call to Ragnarok ". This incredible and powerful print captures the moment Odin Lord of the skies calls his warriors to Ragnarok, the Final Battle!!!! Odin is told of Ragnarok by his trusty ravens Huginn and Muninn. Pouring through the 800 man wide doors are the armies of the dead the Einherjar. They are eager to join Odin's call. They pass the eery statues of the fallen.(pictured)

Seated at Odin's table are the bravest warriors. Odin's table is honoured with the presence of the legendary Saxon Beowulf in the purple helmet. No mightier warrior was there than Beowulf !! He was killed in battle fighting a dragon. Beowulf and his warriors come to fight the dragon, but only one of the warriors, a brave young man named Wiglaf, stays to help Beowulf, because the rest are too afraid. Beowulf kills the dragon with Wiglaf's help, but dies from the wounds he has received. The dragon's treasure is taken from its lair and buried with Beowulf's ashes. And with that the poem ends. Wiglaf says this to the cowardly warriors who fled the battle................................................... So it is Goodbye to all you know and love on your home ground, the open-handedness, the giving of war swords. Every one of you with freeholds of land, our whole nation, will be dispossessed, once-princes from beyond get tidings of how you turned and fled and disgraced yourselves. A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame..........................

Harald Wartooth is seen entering the hall holding his helmet aloft so happy to have finally entered the sacred hall Valhalla. Harald realised that he was about to die of old age (he was 150 years old), so he suggested to Sigurd Ring that a great battle should be fought between them. The place was chosen to be at the moor of Bråvalla in Sweden, and so the legendary Battle of Bråvalla came to be. Harald hoped to die in this battle and go to Valhalla instead of dying in his bed and end up in Niflheim. The mighty Warrior Brithnoth is seen pictured with his back to us in the foreground next to the blond Valkyrie Vebiorg. He fell in battle at Maldon where he heroically had fought on against hundreds of Vikings. The shieldmaiden Vebiorg is pictured on the table to the right. She took on the Swedish army at the Battle of the Brávellir. First she killed the champion Söti, but then Starkad attacked her. Vebiorg received a number of slashes but she cut his mouth so that his chin fell. Starkad had to bite his beard to keep his chin in place. She was killed by Thorkil the Bold. On Odin's table, if you look closely, you can see runic carvings. Earl Tostig is seen toasting Odin recently arriving in Valhalla from his valiant death at the battle of Stamford Bridge in Northern England fighting his brother Harold Godwinson

BEAUTIFUL LIMITED EDITION Hahnemühle Fine Art Print of The Rare painting  "Odin's call to Ragnarok" .

Berserkers fought with crazed or drugged strength, heedless of danger. They worked themselves up into a bloodlust – berserker rage – before battles, banging their helmets with their weapons, biting their shields, and howling. They were said to be immune to pain (or even immune to weapons) in battle. In their fury they would attack their enemies but also everything else in their path, sometimes even their own people and allies. Allies to the raging Norsemen were wary of Berserkers. Fearing that their own homesteads and families might be targeted by the Berserker's Violent instability. Here the Berserker unleashes their legendary ferocity with the Raven banner in the background. ....................

Leon Goodman has been a professional artist for the majority of his working life. His work has been sold at The Omell Gallery, Ascot, as well as Christies, the fine art auction house in London. Many of his works have sold for thousands of pounds in the U.S. ( Please check out Ref only; leon-goodman.com ) Since seeing his work, Risborough Art Gallery have made him a regularly featured artist. Leon’s philosophy is that it is not the delineation of the subject which is important, but its fragmentation. He believes a strictly photographic image does not allow the viewer to participate in the painting. If the image is fragmented, the viewer can imagine for himself the missing parts and involve himself in the creation of the whole image. The viewer has seen his own interpretation of the fragmented images; the next viewer may see something different.
