Artist's Statement

 

The stories, discoveries and legends of the past inspire our future. It is the past and the now that influence my dreams. My heroes are those that have courageously dared to dream, taking unknown and less travelled paths fraught with danger. Many years ago during my teens I read a book by Napoleon Hill distilling the wisdom of many successful men and women through the ages. I had found the answer. I worked hard following a dream of creating music that fused the rich harmonies and melodies of classical music with the energy of rock music. I failed because I allowed naysayers to steal my dream. Life got in the way and got a proper job, still I dreamed and tentatively tried a number of other projects. They also failed but still I wondered if.

 

 

 

I discovered a different path through commissioned house portraits that generated a fair bit of income. I slowly became bolder and with advice of a number of remarkable clients I learned about business. Eventually infused with courage of my heroes, I reached out to people who lived in bigger and bigger houses. I created commissions for earls, lords and ladies, bus drivers and the wealthiest in the land. Yet something wasn’t right. Artistically I had lost my way.

 

When searching for commissions I discovered Napoleon's brother Lucien lived in England. Curiosity piqued me. I spent five years researching his remarkable life and discovered similar and parallel experiences. Ambitious, yet very different to his brother, he tasted success, persecution, failure and eventually getting back on his feet. A man who inspired many with fortitude. It became the book telling the underlying story linking my début solo art exhibition.

 

 

During this time that I found a remarkable lady that believed in me. Together we are now following our dream, daring to think big, aiming for the stars, overcoming challenges I would have struggled to overcome myself. Every hero needs an inspirational damsel to fight for. As a result of our experiences we have discovered many other creatives that have faced similar challenges to us and have fallen by the wayside. Their dreams snuffed out by those who are scared of daring to explore, their natural curiosity extinguished. It is exciting to see those dreams being rekindled.
