 This pseudo Georges de la Tour portrait once again exhibits the same concerns with the illusion of illusion as 20th Century Blue. Here the painting is wrapped in the same cloth as the subject of the painting - a photographic reproduction of a hand-painted reproduction of a photographic reproduction of a mock Baroque composition. “The facade of a facade, behind which there is nothing,” as Julien Torma wrote to Rene Daumal, or perhaps it is too much to say nothing, it would perhaps be more accurate to say, behind which there lies not even nothing. If the modern is the art of absence, then the post-modern is the art of the absence of absence, which is not to say presence (as the logicians would have it), but moves into the realm of paradox, and beyond, and this was the direction these pieces were heading in.

David Platt - David Platt was born in 1971. He spent his early years in the environs of Padstow in Cornwall. A graduate of Falmouth School of Art & Design, the Kent Institute of Art & Design, and University of Central England where he studied Photorealist Painting, Postmodern Neo-Classicism and 'Pataphysics respectively, David has exhibited and sold works internationally having major exhibitions at City Hall Truro in his native Cornwall, and Centro De Arte Mojacar Spain, and has also contributed design works for the BBC, the Welsh National Opera, Harrods and many of the UK's major theme parks. A former member of the London Institute of 'Pataphysics and prizewinner of the Cornish Gorseth, this year David is currently engaged in projects for Fondyans an 'Batafisegieth Kernow and Tan Enterprises both at home in Cornwall and Guangzhou the People's Republic of China.. David has been working as an independent artist since 2001  and currently lives with his wife and a hungry carnivorous plant in beautiful Kernow (Cornwall, United Kingdom).
