"Cemetary Social Gathering" (A Man that wanted to be Revealed) Tryptich by David Ridgway
"Death is the great equalizer" - Inspired by a photograph of an East European gangster’s tombstone featuring the aforementioned speaking on his mobile phone against a backdrop of his prized Mercedes coupé, this painting reveals a character, powerful in life, wanting to be revered after death. Death, however proves no respecter of the wealthy and powerful and the reverence he desired is hardly provided by the diverse group of characters congregating by his grave. Not one of these people give the slightest attention to the inscription on the tomb: they have other things on their mind. These people are based on those I have met and worked with in my time when I worked with homeless people. They represent people who come from various walks of life and find themselves, for whatever reason, on the streets.
