STUNNING NEW OIL PAINTING "Wine"
"Wine" by Andrew K Short
..........BY THE FABULOUS ARTIST A.K SHORT
Andy specializes in figurative, oil paintings, completed in strong dynamic colors and shadows. Bringing out a deeper depth perception, that most other artists are unable to accomplish. Some of his masterpieces display bold colors, and stark lines. While other paintings can still be easily identified as his, but may feature a more loosely style of painting. Whatever the case may be, an Andy Short art show, is a must see.

'Mature student plays mind games with art'
"A STUDENT at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) is proving that you don’t need to have spent a life-time painting to launch a career as a successful artist.
Andy Short, 41 from Caerphilly, discovered his talent for painting just four years ago and is now set to graduate from UWIC’s School of Art and Design.
Having spent his whole career working in customer service jobs, Andy decided that he wanted to prove to himself that he had got both academic and artistic ability, despite having left school at 16.
“I always felt there was something more,” said Andy. “Some friends suggested I should do an art course after they saw me doing some doodles, so I signed up for an art foundation course - I had never picked up a brush before, but I bought some oil paints and have never looked back.
”During his three years on the Fine Art BA, Andy has developed a style of painting which is beautiful and highly detailed, focusing on visual perception in a playful but thought-provoking way.
“All my paintings for this final show confuse what the viewer thinks he or she is looking at to some extent, whether subtly or blatantly obvious,” explained Andy. “This allows the viewer to have an individual experience with the painting as it becomes intriguing.
“It is great to see my work on display and I have enjoyed every minute of this quite amazing – and very fast journey. I would advise anybody to take a chance and do something you are interested in – it is so rewarding.”
Andy has approached galleries with his work and has been selling works since his first year at University and will continue to freelance. His work can be seen at UWIC’s Art & Design degree show from June 9 to June 15 2007.

AK Short - A Short Biography
I was Born in Caerphilly, just outside the Capital of Wales in 1965.
I began studying art quite late in life, my first attempt at a painting was in 2003. I loved the old masters, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Titian etc. My art life began with developing the traditional elements of painting that have almost been lost to modern art.
I believe that there is a place in Contemporary art (painting) for the use of traditional methods, traditional methods does not mean old fashioned paintings, traditional methods give a solid foundation for any style of painting and, I feel, provides a better understanding of the painting practice producing a natural progression in development in any practicing painter. Matisse and Picasso both had a traditional foundation in painting practice which allowed them to progress and develop new ideas that, I believe without it they would not have been able to produce such exciting works later in their career.
My works, at this stage in my own career, are very traditional in style and method, but with a modern world depicted within its subjects and concepts. I can see myself developing my work into something more on the lines of matisse and Picasso becoming freer to explore the realms of none representational realities and more the emotions of the paint and colour!
We shall see! watch this space!
I have a BA(Hons) in Fine Art 2007.
While at university I exhibited works through Galleries up until June 2008 when I had a solo exhibition in the centre of Cardiff.
