New Viking painting "Odin's Einherjar Ship" . This very large painting capturing the legend of the Odin's voyage with the Einherjar. (the army of the dead)
Odin
This exquisite but Sinister
painting shows the Einherjar army of the dead with the Lord of the Skies
Odin. The Einherjar literally "those who are all [now] in one army" are
the army of the fallen. These are Odin's best fighters from Valhalla!! If you look closely at some of the Vikings aboard they are deathly pale and some have no flesh!!!
They like the army of the dead in the Lord of
the Rings fight on here under the banner of Odin. It was foretold that at the end of the World on Midgard (earth) Odin or Woden gathered up his army to fight the giants at Ragnarok (written in runes on the prow of Odin's ship!!! The one -eyed Odin looks out as his ship snakes forward in deathly calm seas! The Vikings and Saxons
loved the symbols of death and carnage;the Raven who followed the host
with his beak dripping blood, the hungry hawks hovering over the
battlefield ,the black sail of Odin's Einherjar.
The three Valkyries Hildr (battle) Gunnr(war) and Hlokk (noise) betray the presence of a Godly ship as they honour the Chief of all Gods below!!! Odin's Black Ravens Huginn and Muninn hover menacingly and knowingly about the ship. Originally the Vikings would actually carry raven's aboard out of respect to Odin and their forefathers but also for a practical reason. If the Raven flew off and didn't come back they knew that land was not far off!!! If the Raven returned then Land was along way off as the Raven returned out of hunger!!!!

Leon Goodman has been a professional artist for the majority of his working life. His work has been sold at The Omell Gallery, Ascot, as well as Christies, the fine art auction house in London. Many of his works have sold to the U.S for thousands of pounds. (Please check out www.leon-goodman.com ) Since seeing his work, Risborough Art Gallery have made him a regularly featured artist. Leon’s philosophy is that it is not the delineation of the subject which is important, but its fragmentation. He believes a strictly photographic image does not allow the viewer to participate in the painting. If the image is fragmented, the viewer can imagine for himself the missing parts and involve himself in the creation of the whole image. The viewer has seen his own interpretation of the fragmented images; the next viewer may see something different.
