A rare opportunity to acquire a superb original Wendy Teasdill silk painting "Horse"
"Horse" by Wendy Teasdill
Wendy Teasdill’s silk paintings reflect the influence of the Asian art and Eastern mysticism in which she has been immersed since the age of 21.
The process of silk painting is a meditation, an organic and indispensable way of complementing Wendy’s writing and teaching. Silk painting is a way of capturing the colossal calm available to us at all times, despite the ravages of the dualistic world. And as such, it is always a work in progress.

Wendy Teasdill
Wendy Teasdill’s silk paintings reflect the influence of the Asian art and Eastern mysticism in which she has been immersed since the age of 21. Having obtained a degree in English literature from Leeds University (not forgetting the Fine Art and Philosophy), she travelled overland to India in 1978 and was fortunate to ride a horse up to the great Buddhist statues at Banyan in northern Afghanistan. War came soon to the Hindu Kush and the statues were later destroyed, but nothing can erase the calm memory of their colossal beauty.
In Pakistan, Wendy accidentally drank unclean water from which she contracted hepatitis, and this in turn led her to the practice of Yoga. Although her Yoga practice is certainly embodied, it is the philosophy and more subtle practices which particularly engage her attention. Most of Wendy’s life up until her mid-thirties was spent in Asia: her day- job was teaching English at the British Council in Hong Kong but she travelled (mostly on foot) throughout remote regions of China, Tibet, India, Nepal and Japan. She always carried copies of the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita - and a sketch-book.
Marriage (to the great Tibetan explorer Bradley Rowe) and motherhood brought Wendy back to the UK. Wendy now lives in Glastonbury with her family and trains Yoga teachers for the British Wheel of Yoga. She still travels to Asia twice a year, taking Yoga groups to Kathmandu to combine the study of the unique artistic heritage there with Yoga practice. Wendy is a habitual writer and for the last 18 years has used silk paintings to illustrate the variety of Yoga topics which interest her. She draws widely on the myths, symbols and esoteric practices of Asia, following the ethos of conveying the living spirit of her subject. The process of silk painting is a meditation, an organic and indispensable way of complementing Wendy’s writing and teaching. Silk painting is a way of capturing the colossal calm available to us at all times, despite the ravages of the dualistic world. And as such, it is always a work in progress.
Wendy has published two books: Walking to the Mountain (Asia 2000, Hong Kong 1996) and Yoga for Pregnancy (Gaia Books, 2002) as well as the afore-mentioned stream of articles – all of which, these days, are accompanied by her silk paintings.
