"Vengeur du Peuple". BY THE FABULOUS ARTIST DAVID ALDUS.
This amazing painting of what remains of the sunken French revolutionary ship "Vengeur du peuple" literally - Avenger of the people!!
This action took
place during the French Revolutionary wars between English ships and forces of the
new French Revolution. An interesting historical event shown here in
the painting is the last days of Chivalry at sea. The Sailors of the
english flagship, the Queen Charlotte, are rescuing the drowning crew of
the Vengeur du peuple.
The arrival of Admiral Nelson ushered in a new era in sea warfare. From there on Nelson's navy was a veritable killing machine packing in more guns per ship, production line warships and very little compassion for enemy sailors!!!
